“ Another birthday lunch! New and second location in my old hood, the Southwest so it was nice to catch up! Very clean and cute place. The service was fantastic! “ This is my first time going to this new location, I've previously been to their Chinatown location. Overall everything was decent, would likely come back to order other items. I've heard great things about their shrimp & cucumber XLB but unfortunately they were sold out today. The items I ordered are: - traditional Shanghai pork XLB: overall good with good amount of soup, but a bit saltier than expected - shanghai pork sheng jian: taste was excellent, great balance of sweet and savory, but the outer wrapper was too thick for me - pork ribs: excellent, my favorite dish here, very tender and good balance of sweet and savory - spicy pork wontons in chili oil: the wontons themselves were excellent, but I wasn't a fan of the sauce/broth, it tasted like water mixed with chili oil without any depth of flavor - seasonal vegetable: when we asked the wait staff what the veggie was, they told us bok choy so we ordered it. But they gave us Yu choy instead. It was still good even though it was unexpected Ambiance is excellent, very modern atmosphere. It was a bit difficult to get the attention of the wait staff at times, but it didn't bother me too much. Neither factor into my rating, my rating is just for food. ”

“ A friend invited me out to lunch. It's my 3rd time here in like 3 months. The weather was cloudy and it was cold, so we opted for some soup. Me and my friend got the Wonton Soup with pork and bak choy, Spicy Wonton, and the soup dumplings. Everything was good. The soup was fine, but will probably try something next time. Service was good and the ambiance was nice and not too crazy busy. ”
“ We have had great experiences at ShangHai Taste Southwest. We've ordered take out once and dined in once. Both times the food was delicious. Here's what we've ordered- Shanghai fried noodles - my personal favorite. I love the chewy texture of the noodles, the flavor, the ratio of veggies and meat to protein. You get to choose your protein. Shanghai rice cakes - similar to Shanghai fried noodles but replace noodles with rice cakes. It was cooked well. Half the table liked this more, while the other half likee the noodles more. Both are good just a matter of preference. Pork is the protein this dish comes with. Classic xlb - what you should be ordering at a place like this. Their xlb is pretty good. Not the best I've had but really good for quality, amount, price, convenience. The skin is not ultra thin like at the best xlb places. But the soup is abundant and tasty. The xlb are little soup dumplings that explode with flavor in your mouth. I wish it came with ginger slices without asking. I love pairing these with the black vinegar. Beef sheng jian - really delicious here. Freshly made, crisp on the outside, juicy soup explosion on the inside. I read a review that these are hard to eat. No they're not hard to eat. You just have to know how to eat them. From a non Western culture standpoint you could argue that a hamburger or slice of pizza is difficult to eat too. But I digress. Traditionally you take a small bite of the dough from the top, just enough to make a hole in the roof of the fried dumpling so that the soup can cool. When the soup is cool enough that's your cue to slurp away and chomp in one bite or carefully sip the soup and inhale in several bites. You won't regret the patient wait. Sheng jian - same as above just with the classic pork filling instead of beef. Personally I like the beef more because I'm inclined to get the pork filling for the classic xlb. But these are good too. Half our table preferred the beef version and the other half the pork version. Seasonal vegetables - I never order these for take out because vegetables are just so much healthier and cheaper at home. But when dining in, it's a must for our family. Greasier than what you'd get at home and small portions but we liked the choice of veggies we had the day we came. Sweet and sour pork ribs - fan favorite all around. They are huge ribs compared to the small traditional pork ribs I grew up eating. But even my mom was pleasantly surprised at the quality. The meat is succulent, fall off the bone juicy and delicious. A must order Crispy fried chicken - this is done really well here. The batter is light. The chicken is actually chunks of chicken meat as opposed to many places that have huge amounts of chicken fat and tendon and blobs of fried batter. The seasoning is also not overly salty. All in all, we haven't had a single thing here that everyone did not like. They even have cute little plates for toddlers dining in. We are definitely coming back multiple times ”
“ We usually go to the Chinatown location for the pan-fried pork buns but decided to come to this one since finding parking in Shang Hai Plaza is always a pain. The parking at this location was much more open. We tried the chili oil wontons and sweet & sour short ribs today too. The chili oil wontons were phenomenal and we loved them. The sheng jian was a little doughy and we think the Chinatown location makes them a little better. The sweet & sour short ribs were good, but I wouldn't order them again since the portion is a bit small for $17. We will probably be back here to try the sheng jian again to see if they were just a little off this one time or if it's a regular occurrence for this location. The service was great and the inside was very clean and welcoming. ”
